Movie review – Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani

Cast: Ranbir Kapoor, Deepika Padukone, Kalki Koechln, Aditya Roy Kapur

Director: Ayan Mukherji

Plot: Kabir Thappar (Ranbir Kapoor) a.k.a Bunny is a guy who wants to live life King size! Travelling to each and every corner of the world, chasing his dreams and making the best out of them is what he wants. On the other hand, Naina Talwar (Deepika Padukone) is a geek, a nerd and very boring, atleast at the beginning of the movie. The movie kickstarts with a trekking trip to Manali which was originally planned out by Kabir, Avi (Adtiya Roy Kapur) and Aditi (Kalki Koechlin), three best friends!

Meanwhile, the nerdy medical student Deepika, who is tired with all the constant mocking from her mom and runs from her home and joins the best friends on their trip to Manali. Events take a toll on them and eventually Deepika realises the real meaning of life all thanks to Mr. Kabir. The naach gaana happens and love’s in the airAfter the trip, we take a leap of eight years where we find all the four characters in their own paths. And from here their story unfolds.

Performances: Ranbir and Deepika’s acting skills were never in question and they have expectedly delivered wonderfully. Deepika looks stunningly sexy while Kalki also stands up to her in some parts. Ranbir and Deepika’s amazing chemistry completely overshadows the weak links in the editing which could’ve been a little more better. Aditya Roy Kapur has really emerged and improved as an actor and Kalki also does a great job!Evelyn Sharma looks hot as ever and Farooq Sheikh, who plays Ranbir’s dad shares a few emotional moments with his son and his performance, though in bits and parts, was applaudable. Aaaaaaand, not to forget! The Madhuri Dixit appearance is really, really very enchanting! She looks gorgeous as ever!

Technical aspect:  Ranbir and Deepika’s dialogues are very witty and funny while Aditya Roy Kapur would also make you chuckle. The music, as we all know is extremely powerful and energetic with full on masti. The first half was amazing while the second half wouldn’t capture your attention forever as it gets a bit predictable later on. That’s why I think the editing could’ve been more crispier. Ayan Mukherji has done a wonderful job with those amazing locations and his direction.

Bottom-line: Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani is all about fun, fun and some more fun.

Rating: 3.5/5
